Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble – gameplay details on the upcoming mobile hero shooter

Global pre-registration is officially open for Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, an upcoming free-to-play mobile hero shooter. Developed by Oh Bibi in collaboration with PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games, the title is preparing for its worldwide release on iOS and Android devices.

According to the PlayStation Blog, players can now sign up on the App Store and Google Play. To celebrate the global pre-registration milestone, the developers have launched a community rewards campaign, allowing players to unlock an exclusive "Clank Suit" skin for the character Widget.

Soft Launch History and Availability

Before opening global pre-registrations, the game underwent regional soft launches to test gameplay in Canada, the Nordics, France, and Asia.

While Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble is gearing up for its full global launch, Sony has not yet announced a specific release date. However, the title is confirmed to be free-to-play when it officially debuts on mobile platforms.

A Closer Look at the Hero Roster

The game will feature 12 playable heroes at launch. The roster is designed to highlight a mix of legendary characters from the franchise’s past alongside brand-new faces. Notably, these original characters will include newly introduced Lombaxes. To ensure these new additions fit naturally into the franchise, Oh Bibi worked directly with Insomniac Games to develop the backstories and visual designs of the new characters.

Narratively, the developers claim the game's premise centers on Captain Qwark, who has created a specialized combat simulation to find and train the next generation of Galactic Rangers. While 12 heroes will be available on day one, the development team has indicated there is "more to come" regarding post-launch characters, though a specific timeline for future additions remains unknown. One of the confirmed launch heroes, Widget, will also be the recipient of the pre-registration campaign's "Clank Suit" skin.

Gameplay Modes and Classic Style

At launch, players will be able to participate in six distinct game modes. These will include:

• Team-based player-versus-player (PvP) matches.
• Wave-based player-versus-environment (PvE) combat.
• A battle royale-inspired mode.
• A sports-themed, football-inspired mode.

In designing the game, the development team aimed to capture the signature humor and inventive weaponry of the mainline series while optimizing the action for fast-paced mobile play. To evoke nostalgia for longtime fans, the game's soundtrack is specifically inspired by the music of the early Ratchet & Clank games.
