The announcement was made by the film's director, Peter Berg, during an appearance at Fanatics Fest. Alongside the setting, the project has also secured an official theatrical release date, with the film scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2028.

Confirming the news on social media, the official Call of Duty account shared:

"Director Peter Berg revealed today at @FanaticsFest the @CallOfDutyMovie is set in the Modern Warfare universe. In theaters June 30, 2028."
