A new chapter in the miniature survival genre is on the horizon, as Smalland 2: Lost Realms is scheduled to launch later in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S. Announced via Xbox Wire, the upcoming title serves as a prequel to the original Smalland: Survive the Wilds, taking players back to an era long before the world they previously explored.
A Prequel Set Before the Giants
The sequel shifts the timeline backward, offering players a look at the world's history before the "Giants" colonized the land. Players will once again be shrunk down to miniature size, but this time they will navigate an expanded world populated by new cultures and elemental beasts.
In the official announcement on Xbox Wire, the team shared their excitement for the project and thanked their community:
"First of all, a big thank you to everyone who played the original Smalland: Survive the Wilds! Today, I’m excited to announce Smalland 2: Lost Realms, which will launch later this year on XBOX Series X|S. Taking place ages before the events of the first game, Smalland 2: The Lost Realms brings you back down to size and into an expanded world filled with mythical creatures that are attuned to the natural elements. A world before the Giants colonized it, where you’ll discover new lands and cultures to help the Smallfolk thrive. We’ve grown and expanded upon Smalland to create the ultimate Smallfolk experience in Smalland 2. Keep reading to learn about some of the changes between Smalland 1 and Smalland 2, as well as a glimpse into two new key mechanics."
New Mechanics and Elemental Creatures
To support this larger world, Smalland 2: Lost Realms introduces several new gameplay systems designed to evolve the survival experience. Players will encounter mythical creatures that are uniquely attuned to the natural elements, requiring new strategies for survival and interaction.
Exploration is also receiving a major upgrade. For the first time, players will have the ability to swim through bodies of water, opening up new paths across the game's diverse environments. This traversal mechanic is paired with an expanded crafting system and evolved interactions, which aim to give players more tools to help the Smallfolk thrive in these ancient, uncharted lands.
