How The Coalition and NVIDIA are Building Gears of War: E-Day for PC

Xbox and developer The Coalition have announced an exclusive PC partnership with NVIDIA for the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day, aiming to deliver advanced visual and performance enhancements for the platform. According to an announcement published on Xbox Wire, this collaboration has been active since early development and will continue through the game's scheduled launch on October 6, 2026. Ahead of the full release, players will have an opportunity to test the game when early access for the Open Beta begins on August 6, 2026.

Unreal Engine 5 and RTX Optimizations

Built on Unreal Engine 5 and utilizing the DirectX 12 API, Gears of War: E-Day is leveraging NVIDIA's hardware raytracing and RTX optimizations to enhance lighting, environments, and overall graphical detail. The PC version will integrate NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, which includes both Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution to improve frame rates and image quality. Additionally, the game will support NVIDIA Reflex to minimize system latency and improve input responsiveness.

Mike Perzel, Rendering Lead at The Coalition, highlighted the studio's technical goals for the upcoming prequel:

“Gears of War: E-Day is being built to deliver a cinematic, visceral, and technically ambitious return to the origins of the franchise. Built on DirectX 12, we're focused on delivering a great experience across console and PC. Partnering with NVIDIA gives us the opportunity to further enhance that world for PC players with the performance, responsiveness, and visual fidelity PC players expect.”

Broad Hardware Support and Shader Precompilation

While NVIDIA serves as the primary PC partner, The Coalition is also optimizing the game for a wide range of hardware configurations. Players using other graphics cards will still have access to performance-boosting upscaling options, as the game includes support for AMD FSR, Intel XeSS, and Unreal Engine’s native Temporal Super Resolution (TSR).

To address performance issues common in modern PC releases, the game will support Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) on compatible hardware. This feature delivers precompiled shaders to players, designed to eliminate first-run shader stutter and significantly reduce initial load times. At launch, ASD will be supported on the Microsoft Store and the Xbox PC app, with plans to expand the feature to other PC storefronts later on.
