Tomb Raider Catalyst has seemingly been delayed to 2028, according to Amazon’s gaming lead

The launch window for Tomb Raider: Catalyst has been thrown into question after comments from Amazon's gaming leadership pointed to a potential 2028 release, prompting a quick response from the publisher.

Speaking during an interview on The Game Business podcast, Jeffrey Gattis, Amazon’s general manager of gaming, referenced the company's upcoming slate of titles and stated that Tomb Raider: Catalyst is "coming in 2028." The mention stirred immediate attention as reports had previously pointed toward an expected 2027 window for the project.

Amazon Games Responds to Executive's Comments

Following Gattis's statement, Amazon Games moved to clarify its stance regarding the project's schedule. In a statement reported by Gematsu, an Amazon Games representative pushed back against the executive's framing.

"We don’t have anything new to share about Catalyst‘s timing," the spokesperson said. "The game is progressing well and we look forward to sharing more details as we get closer."

Whether Gattis prematurely revealed an unannounced internal delay or simply misspoke during the interview remains unconfirmed by the company, which has explicitly declined to confirm a shift to 2028.

The Franchise's Future at Amazon Games

Amazon Games originally entered a publishing partnership with developer Crystal Dynamics in 2022 to bring the iconic franchise into its next era. The deal currently encompasses two distinct game projects.

Alongside Tomb Raider: Catalyst, Crystal Dynamics is working on Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider. That title remains on track for release in February 2027.

For now, the official status of Tomb Raider: Catalyst sits in a grey area between executive remarks pointing to 2028 and the publisher's stance that no timing update has officially been made.
