Two Cancelled Virtual Boy Games Join 'Nintendo Classics' Next Week

Nintendo is officially adding two previously unreleased Virtual Boy titles, Zero Racers and D-Hopper, to its Nintendo Classics service on August 4, 2026. Both games were originally cancelled prior to launch, though Nintendo first revealed plans to revive them for subscribers earlier this year in January.

App Color Customization and Multimedia Additions

Alongside the incoming games, Nintendo is rolling out a system update for the Virtual Boy app on Nintendo Classics. The patch introduces a new feature allowing players to alter the display's screen color palette on the fly. Users can trigger this setting by holding down the right control stick while pressing the L and R buttons.

To coincide with the game releases, Nintendo has launched a new commercial spotlighting the Virtual Boy platform. The company has also expanded its "Nintendo Music" mobile app library with five Virtual Boy soundtracks, adding music from Virtual Boy Wario Land, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer, and Mario's Tennis.

Expanding the Retro Lineup

The Virtual Boy lineup has received consistent content updates since joining Nintendo Classics earlier in 2026. The addition of Zero Racers and D-Hopper marks a rare move by Nintendo to publish fully playable versions of cancelled historical titles that never saw an original retail release.
