Cyan Worlds has confirmed that a new game in the Myst franchise is currently in early development. The studio announced the project alongside details regarding an abandoned prototype codenamed "Project Anglerfish," which was built between 2024 and 2025 before being shelved.
Cyan leadership shared the news on July 26, 2026, during the developer's yearly presentation at the Mysterium fan gathering, according to reporting by GamesIndustry.biz. While confirming that an entirely separate Myst project is actively underway, Cyan did not share its title, gameplay systems, target platforms, or target launch date.
Unveiling 'Project Anglerfish'
Along with news of its active development plans, Cyan showcased a teaser trailer for Project Anglerfish. The studio spent two years creating the prototype and pitched it to potential publishers, but the project did not move forward into full production.
The reveal took place during a presentation segment titled "Paths Not (yet) Taken," which focused on unreleased or reworked concepts from Cyan's past. In addition to Project Anglerfish, the retrospective showcased early design concepts for Obduction, along with unreleased internal projects designated as "Lyft" and "DiSC."
Remaining Unknowns
Cyan Worlds did not share specific details regarding why publishers passed on Project Anglerfish, nor did it outline the narrative setting or mechanical systems designed for the prototype.
It is also unknown whether any art assets, narrative ideas, or puzzle designs from Project Anglerfish will carry over into the new Myst title currently in early production. The studio has only confirmed that the project actively in development is distinct from the shelved prototype.
